ULUSKON DELEGATION VISITS NORTHERN CYPRUS: A GIANT STEP FOR COMMERCIAL AND ECONOMIC COOPERATION Nezaket Emine Atasoy, President of the International Investment and Business Confederation (ULUSKON) and UN Goodwill Ambassador, along with an accompanying ULUSKON delegation, paid a highly critical visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as part of an official program organized under the coordination of İsmet Korukoğlu, the TRNC Ambassador to Ankara. Making a rapid start to their contacts on August 27, the first day of the visit, President Atasoy and the ULUSKON delegation were received by high-level authorities on the island. The main agenda of the meetings consisted of increasing the trade volume between Turkey and the TRNC, boosting the export potential between the two countries, and launching joint economic initiatives that will contribute to the development of both nations. On the first day, which was marked by intense diplomatic activity, the ULUSKON delegation was first received by Erhan Arıklı, the TRNC Minister of Public Works and Transportation. Following this meeting, where strategic steps in the fields of transportation and logistics were discussed, contacts continued with Ebru Kaptan Ertoğlu, Director of the Cyprus Turkish Investment Development Agency (YAGA). During the meeting with YAGA Director Ertoğlu, investment opportunities in the TRNC and projects that would strengthen the commercial presence of Turkish businesspeople in the region were evaluated in detail. One of the most critical receptions of the day took place with TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel. In his speech during the reception, Prime Minister Üstel emphasized the importance of crowning the unwavering bonds between the two countries with economic achievements, stating that they are ready to support all kinds of commercial cooperation that will contribute to development initiatives. Evaluating the outcome of the high-level contacts, President Atasoy expressed her satisfaction with the warm welcome on the island. Stating that they will work with all their strength for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to gain economic strength and play a more active role in international markets, Atasoy emphasized that concrete steps were taken during the meetings to expand trade volume and improve exports, and that joint projects for the development of both countries will begin without delay. This meaningful visit heralded a new era that will reinforce the commercial ties between Turkey and the TRNC.
